Home brew 12 / 24 volt battery backup generator
|
Our home brew battery backup generator, soon to run off of
hydrogen. Our system is 12 volts, but the alternator (100%
duty cycle, used in semi trucks) are made for 12 or 24 volts.
Our generator is also hooked to a battery monitor that will
start the generator if the battery bank falls below a certain
level. All this can be viewed from our home, or manually
started from in our home as well.
The exhaust is from an old motor home, and is very quiet. On
days where we have little to no sun and no wind, it may run for
2 hours before the battery bank is full. The alternator puts out
about 160 amps at 12 volts. The hydrogen generator that will
fuel our back up generator will use 30 amps at 12 volts. This
will leave 130 amps to charge the battery bank! A green
generator! (Click here if you are interested in solar and wind
products.)
Our battery bank, 24 golf cart batteries.
