About Us
We are an off grid family living in the high desert of the west.
We have been off grid for over 5 years, hauling water due to a
water supply saltier than most oceans.

With the need for water, and high goals like being 100%
sustainable, growing our own garden to supply 100% of our
own vegetables, and producing our own green power. We set
out to do it right, and hauling water was becoming more costly
due to high fuel prices. In todays times it was fast becoming
out of the question and to costly.

Gardens we had tried to grow here in the past were quick at
being eaten up  from our local neighbors, the jack rabbits. We
had nothing against them, but we had to figure out a way to
protect our plants. The plants that we fenced in were also
burned by the hot dry desert winds, so we came up with the
protected greenhouse. It kept the rabbits at bay, and as we
soon learned it also kept the winds from killing our plants.

Also in the process of our new discoveries we found our plants
were producing in the winter, and kept out the bugs as well in
the summer. With changing weather, now called "climate
change" you never know what will be thrown at you, and this
gave our plants just what they needed in water and protection.
Also in the process I discovered that I could recycle our grey
water back into pure drinkable solar distilled water.

Currently our water system is run off one solar panel and a
couple of deep cycle batteries. And they never seem to be
under charged. If someone had a slight grade, power would
only be needed to pressurize the water to the home.

Yep, we are off grid and loving it!

We bought a reverse osmosis sea water
system from "AmPac USA" out of southern
California. It was, and is a huge white
elephant. I informed them I was off grid and
I needed a unit that would work in my
situation. It was $9,000.00. It sits in my water
shed taking up room.

I had problems running it, they said they
would make it right, and here it sits collecting
dust after 4 years, of doing nothing. I have
only made about 30 gallons of drinkable
water from it. I would not wish the system on
anyone unless they had no space for solar
stills.

The RO unit uses large amounts of power, it
takes 240 volts AC. It only recovers a slight
amount of water, its noise will wake up the
dead. Its filters are not cheap. I could go on
and on, but one thing I am glad about. It
made me think, and I had a dream one night
about making stills using tires, growing food
and drinking pure water. So I put my dream
to the test, and it worked!  Thats why I wrote
the book on building them.
"Seawater to Garden, a Designers Manual"
I made some solar stills using plans off the
web, however they are not cheep to build.
They are problematic, they leak, they do not
collect rain water, and they do not collect
evaporated water from the ground. I also
found the glass was not a good thing to have
around the children.

Personally, they were to expensive for a
whole home and garden set up.
